Out of all the colors in the world, if I could only pick one color to decorate with, it would be blue! (I realize this probably does not come as a surprise to you if you’ve been around here for a very long.) And my favorite color combination in our home is blue and white (and you can even throw in a little green for good measure)!
Blue is classic, it’s timeless, it’s tried and true. There’s a reason why the phrase “true blue” is a thing. Blue is the most common favorite color in the world!

While I enjoy incorporating lots of different colors throughout our home, my clear favorite and most predominant color scheme is blue and white. So today I’m sharing some of my favorite ways that I decorate with blue and white around our home.
How to Decorate with Blue and White
Blue and white is a classic color combination that brings a fresh, stylish look to any home. Here’s why it’s a favorite in home decor:
- Endless Color Options — There are so many gorgeous shades of blue to use in your home, and they all work together, from soft pastels and moody blues to cobalt and deep navy. Whether you want a serene coastal retreat or a more sophisticated look, you can find the perfect shade of blue to reflect the style of your space.
- A Classic and Fresh Look — Pairing white with blue keeps the look of your space feeling crisp, clean, and effortlessly stylish.
- It Pairs Well with Neutrals and Wood Tones — Blue and white pair beautifully with natural wood elements, wicker, and rattan, as well as pretty metallic accents.

- Works in Every Season — You can decorate with blue and white year-round. It’s bright and airy in the summer, and cozy and rich in the winter.
Pro Tip: One of the best ways to never get tired of your home’s decor is to choose colors you genuinely love, rather than chasing trends. Since the color blue happens to be the favorite color choice of so many people, it makes sense that it will stand the test of time in your home if it’s a color combo you love!

Blue continues to be a popular paint color choice for interiors, and for good reason! From dreamy coastal blues to vibrant indigo shades, it’s a timeless choice for your decor.

Blue and White Porch Decor
Your front porch is the perfect place to make a great first impression with blue and white. Here are some great ways to add a little blue curb appeal:

- Paint your front door blue! Welcome guests with a beautiful shade of blue on your front door!
- Benjamin Moore Hale Navy or Sherwin-Williams Naval are great options for a deep, rich look.
- Or consider a more vibrant shade like Sherwin-Williams Endless Sea like our front door in the image above. It’s the perfect amount of blue while still being sophisticated and classic!
- Add a blue and white wreath. A blue and white gingham ribbon added to a white floral wreath is refreshing and welcoming.
- Add vibrant blue and white pots and planters. Showcase your flowers and potted plants in beautiful cobalt blue ceramic pots. These white Chinoiserie-style planter boxes are a classic look on any porch!
- Don’t forget a pretty blue and white rug! Our blue and white striped rug ties in all together! Ours is no longer available, but this rug is similar!

Pro Tip: One thing to remember when you’re decorating your room with blue and white — use various shades of blue for a rich, layered look. You’ll find a range of shades of blue in our family room that are not all perfectly matched. It adds interest and creates a more “collected” look.
Blue and White Dining Room Decor
All of the blue and white decor in our dining room makes it such a classic and inviting space! Whether we use this room for everyday dining or for special gatherings this color combo provides a beautiful backdrop from floor to ceiling!
Here’s how we use blue and white in our dining room:
- Blue and White Area Rug — Our blue and white area rug helps define the space and adds warmth and pattern to the floor.
- Ceiling Paint Color — Our blue ceiling is the “accent wall” of our dining room.
- Last fall we added trim molding to our dining room walls and painted them Benjamin Moore White Dove. To top it all off, we painted the flat portion of the tray ceiling a beautiful shade of blue, Benjamin Moore Little Falls. It’s a mid-tone moody blue that adds a subtle but beautiful accent to the space.
- DIY Blue and White Artwork — I created a unique piece of DIY art using fabric, which brings texture and pattern to the room.

- Blue and White Plates & Dishes — Mix classic blue and white porcelain plates with modern blue stoneware. You’ll often find me mixing and matching blue and white patterned plates and napkins to achieve the layered look I love in this room.
- Layered Linens — Combine blue and white napkins, table runners, and placemats for a cohesive look.

- Table Centerpieces — Nothing’s prettier or more timeless than blue and white vases filled with fresh or faux flowers for an elegant centerpiece.

Blue and White Kitchen Decor
A blue and white kitchen is timeless and inviting! I love how fresh these colors make our kitchen feel!
Here’s how I use these classic colors in our kitchen:

- Navy Kitchen Doors with White Walls and Cabinets — Blue and white paint color does the heavy lifting in our kitchen. Our interior kitchen doors are painted Benjamin Moore Hale Navy, a beautiful rich navy shade. I love how they pop against our off-white walls and cabinets painted Sherwin-Williams Alabaster.

- Blue and White Tablescape — I love setting a pretty kitchen table with blue pottery, tinted blue glassware, napkins and table linens.
- Fun Blue and White Kitchen Accents — I love adding interesting blue and white accents in our kitchen! Incorporate pretty dish towels, pottery, and decorative ceramics for a cohesive look.
- Our potted fern in this blue and white fish bowl planter is such a classic look!
- I’m always drawn to pretty dish towels, and these Chinoiserie-style blue and white tea towels add an elevated look to our kitchen! They come in a set of three!
- A Blue and White Plate Wall — Our display of blue and white Blue Willow plates is a lovely focal point in our kitchen and the colors pop against the backdrop of our white walls.
Blue and White Bedroom Styling with Coastal Blues
Everyone needs a calming, peaceful bedroom to relax and escape from the chaos of a busy day. Blue and white are perfect for bedroom decor, and here’s how we use this lovely color combo in our bedroom.
- Wall and Ceiling Paint Colors — Our wall color in our master bedroom is Sherwin-Williams Alabaster, and the ceiling is Sherwin-Williams Lullaby for a soft, serene, and coastal feel.
- Soft Blue Bedding — A white pick-stitch quilt and blue duvet make our bedroom feel cozy and relaxing.
- My favorite bedding is this white pick-stitch quilt from Pottery Barn. I use the quilts and the pillow shams throughout the year, and love to add a fluffy comforter at the foot of our bed. This soft blue comforter from Lauren Ralph Lauren is a pretty pop of soft blue color at the foot of the bed.
- Creating layers of blue and white color on the bed makes such a cozy look, and of course I always add a fair share of blue and white throw pillows to the mix!
Coastal Blue and White Primary Bathroom
A couple of years ago, we completed the best blue and white DIY project in our primary bathroom. Here’s how we did it:
- Palm Frond Wall Stencil — I used this stencil to create the look of a gorgeous palm frond wallpaper, adding a custom touch to the space.
- Wall and Ceiling Paint Colors — Just like in our bedroom, the backdrop of the design is Sherwin-Williams Alabaster, while the palm frond pattern is painted in Sherwin-Williams Lullaby for a soft and serene blue accent.
- A Coastal Retreat Feel — This DIY project truly elevated our bathroom, making it feel like stepping into a lovely Coastal South Carolina home!
- DIY Transformation — It was a labor-intensive project, but I absolutely love how it turned out! It’s one of my favorite projects that I’ve done, and you can read all about that project here and here.
Pro Tip: If you decide to tackle a wall stenciling project, particularly in your bathroom, it’s help to purchase two stencils for the project. Keep one full size, and use the other to cut down into smaller, more manageable sections to stencil into and around corners.
Whether you’re all in on blue and white decor or just dipping your toes in, I hope these ideas help you find ways to bring this classic color combo into your home. There are so many fun and creative ways to use blue and white—whether it’s a bold statement piece or just a few accents here and there.

At the end of the day, decorating is all about creating a space that feels like you—a home that makes you smile every time you walk through the door. So have fun with it, mix and match, and make it your own!
