Have you stored all of your Christmas decorations away? Sometimes it feels a little bare in our homes after all of the sparkly Christmas decorations come down and we’re left with somewhat of a blank palette.

Our home is decked out for Christmas from the end of October through New Year’s Day, so after months of additional holiday decor around our home, I actually don’t mind a little “cleansing of the palate” of our home.

I’m always careful, though, not to go too minimalist with our decor (not that that’s ever really an issue for me). I love to fill our home with cozy decor items to keep our space feeling inviting during this cooler, and sometimes drearier time of year.

As I choose a color scheme for our home during the winter months, I lean into colors that evoke warm cozy feelings and a sense of peace and calm throughout these chilly winter months.

If you’ve followed me for long, it should come as no surprise to you that I love to lean into shades of blue and green during January and February in our home! Of course, I use these colors throughout the year in our home, but during the winter months, I tend to strip away all of the other contrasting colors or complementary colors like pinks, corals, oranges and reds, and stick with predominantly shades of blue and shades of green, mixed with a healthy dose of cozy neutrals.

So today, I’m sharing some of my favorite ways I’m using blues and greens to create a space that feels inviting all winter long.

What I Look for When Choosing a Winter Color Palette

Since winter can feel a little gloomy with cloudy gray skies and cold weather, I like to choose some of my favorite colors to make our home feel cozy. I love a calming color scheme that includes colors of nature and is reminiscent of clear blue skies and the green grass and green foliage of warmer seasons.

So for me, blue and green paired together with my favorite cozy neutrals and warm whites, makes the perfect winter color scheme for our home.

The Appeal of Blue and Green Together

Blue and green is one of my favorite color combinations for our home, and I think one of the main reasons is because it blends seamlessly with the outdoors.

We could get all technical and talk about blue and green pairing well because they’re analogous colors on the color wheel (meaning they sit next to each other on the wheel), but I do think the greatest appeal is how well they reflect the colors of the outdoors. Blue and green are the backdrop colors of nature. From rolling green fields set against a back drop of a clear blue sky to palm trees and blue green oceans, blue and green is classic and timeless and breathes life into your space.

How I Incorporated Blue and Green Together for Our Winter Decor

I start with a base of warm neutrals in our home decor. Use warm tones and neutral colors in your home to set a beautiful backdrop for any color scheme you choose. Using a base of neutrals throughout our home makes it easy to switch our decor color scheme throughout the year and with seasonal holidays.

Use varying shades of blue and green accessories to add depth and interest throughout your decor. Combine deep emerald green or olive green with more subtle sage green. Pair dark blue, baby blue, cobalt blue, and icy blues together to add color depth and interest. Don’t forget to throw in some blue green colors such as teal, jade, or turquoise in the mix to create a rich and classic look.

Add touches of greenery to bring the outdoors in and add the perfect pop up green to any room.

Blue and Green Accents in Our Entryway:

Our gold mirror reflects light adds warmth to our foyer all year long. I filled a cream vase full of faux green stems and added a velvety blue ribbon.

Last fall I purchased this art print by Candace Carol Art in one of her $15 Friday print specials. I love the blues and greens that remind me of warmer months ahead. I love how pretty it looks with the blue velvet and the painted green lantern.

Our Living Room Decorated for Winter

Our pair of creamy beige sofas creates the perfect neutral backdrop for our blue and green accents. Our living room walls are painted Benjamin Moore Tyler Gray, so this soft and warm neutral color palette is perfect with the rich blues and greens.

I didn’t change out many things in this room after Christmas. The blue and white ginger jar full of dried green hydrangeas adds lots of color and texture to the neutral elements in the room.

Velvety green throw pillows and throws add cozy texture, and the blue-green canvas art above the sofa adds a touch of blue sky to the room.

A large round basket full of greenery and moss balls adds a touch of nature, and the candle in the hurricane adds soft light on a cold winter night.

These blue and cream floral print pillows have served us well since I purchased them last fall. They add pretty blue and white pattern in the room and look cozy paired with these cozy cream pillows.

Dried hydrangeas are perfect for arrangements during the winter months. These blooms from our yard have such vivid colors and just pop in the cobalt blue glass vase gifted to me from a friend.

I’ve added the vase to our mantel along with my favorite cypress greenery. A blue and white lidded ginger jar and stack of green and blue books round out the opposite end of the mantel, and tall rustic gold taper candles hold flameless taper candles that add soft light to the room.

The fireplace, protected by this fireplace screen, is flanked by a pair of wooden lanterns and a basket overflowing with faux greenery and large pinecones.

After Christmas, you don’t have to hurry to store all of your greenery and pinecones! They make perfect winter decor for January!

Blue and Green Winter Color Palette in Our Dining Room:

Last fall, Jeff added molding to the walls in our dining room, and we repainted the room Benjamin Moore White Dove. We also painted the tray ceiling Benjamin Moore Little Falls, which is a more of a gray-blue than the previous blue-green ceiling color. You can see the before and after photos of the dining room in this post.

I love the way the new color works with our blue and white rug.

Since we already had a good base of blue in the room, I simply added a few touches of green in the table centerpiece. I kept the greenery in our large corner vase and wooden dough bowl on the dining room buffet.

A Little Blue and Green in Our Kitchen:

In the kitchen breakfast area, simple touches like a blue and white bowl, little white ceramic houses, and winter greenery paired with a faux paperwhite plant in a terracotta pot, create a cozy winter vignette on the buffet.
