A Simple Fall Home Tour: Cozy Seasonal Touches Made Easy
During this first week of fall, I’m sharing a little tour of our home and the cozy touches I’ve added. A few carefully placed pumpkins, some seasonal florals, and a couple of soft pillows and blankets are all it takes to make your home feel like autumn.
Sometimes it only takes the smallest changes to shift a space for the season. A throw blanket here, a few pumpkins there, and suddenly everything feels warm and inviting for fall.

Have you started decorating for fall? Now that the calendar says the season is officially here, I’ve been busy adding little touches of autumn around our home.
Sometimes updating your home for a new season can feel overwhelming, but a few simple swaps make the process easy and fun.
For me, it’s really about reusing favorite pieces throughout the year and then layering in a few seasonal touches. Before long, the whole house starts to feel warm, cozy, and ready for fall.

Simple Tips for Creating a Cozy Fall Home
In our home this year, I wanted simple, so instead of a big decorating overhaul for fall, I focused on a few small changes that instantly gave our home a cozy fall vibe. Here are the simple updates that worked for me, and I bet they’ll work for you as well.
1. Switch Out Your Pillow Covers.

One of my favorite ways to change the look of our home for fall is by swapping out the pillows or pillow covers on our sofa. I like purchasing pillow covers because it saves on storage space when you are using them.
Changing your pillow covers makes it simple to bring in the colors of the season into your rooms. This year, I’m using a mix of blue, green, and brown for our fall colors. It’s a palette that feels cozy and rich for autumn while still working with the rest of our home.

Since I typically keep my favorite blue and white pillows on our living room sofas and chair, I simply added some brown pillows and a velvety green lumbar to bring in these fall hues.

I love the colors and texture of this Kilim pillow I tossed in an extra chair in our dining room.
2. Layer in Cozy Throws

Nothing says fall like a cozy blanket within arm’s reach. I pulled out our green plaid throw and added it to one sofa.

This gorgeous brown and white striped blanket is draped over our wingback chair. It was a great find last fall and it add a high-end look at a great price!

I draped another deep green knit throw over the other sofa.
Not only do they add warmth and texture, but keeping extra blankets in a big basket makes them easy to grab when the weather cools.
3. Update Your Florals

Another favorite way I transition our decor from season to season is by updating the flowers and greenery around our home.
For our fall mantel, I reused the same blue and white vase from summer but swapped the summer florals for faux burgundy stems, seeded eucalyptus, and dried hydrangeas from our yard.
Don’t be afraid to mix real and faux florals together in an arrangement. It’s especially easy to do with dried hydrangeas since they don’t require water. Mixing realistic faux stems with dried flowers is an easy way to create arrangements that look natural and last.

I combined dried hydrangeas with faux greenery stems in the arrangement on our sofa table. The turned wooden vase is another staple decor piece that I use year round. I removed the faux delphinium and white cherry blossom blooms and replaced them with large dried green Annabelle hydrangea blooms from our yard.

In our foyer, I updated an arrangement I made last fall in this DIY Anthropologie-inspired vase. I added these gorgeous dried blue hydrangeas that I’m using for at least the third year! If you store dried hydrangea blooms in a cool, dry, dark location the color remains for quite a long time!
Having an abundance of hydrangea bushes in our landscape certainly pays off this time of year! I brought more stems in from the yard to create arrangements on our kitchen and dining tables.

This pretty brown glass vase on our kitchen table has the perfect moody vintage look for displaying the dried hydrangeas. I love how pretty this centerpiece looks with our new block print table cloth! This was another great find that will transition beautifully from season to season.

I clipped more limelight and Endless summer blooms to create this centerpiece on our dining table. I love the beautiful burgundy and green in the blooms in the white vase.
4. Add Pumpkins, Gourds, and Fresh Produce

Pumpkins are an instant way to make your home feel like fall. I love mixing heirloom varieties with traditional pumpkins around our home, and my favorite colors to use inside are the pretty green, peach, and white pumpkins.

A quick trip to the produce section at our grocery store provided the colorful display for our dining table centerpiece! Among the heirloom pumpkins in rich greens and muted peach, and mixed in fresh nectarines, pears, and blood oranges for a rich autumn look.
Using fresh produce is always a great way to at a natural organic look to your arrangements. If you prefer not to buy fresh pumpkins and produce every year, collecting a few good faux pumpkins and even some faux fruit is a year-after-year option.

I added a bunch of faux wheat stems on our dining room buffet table for a pretty touch of fall to complement the table centerpiece.
5. Hang a Simple Wreath in a Window

I love a pretty fall wreath in a window. In our breakfast nook, I reworked an old wreath by tearing it down to the base, and then attached some floral stems and berries and hung it in our breakfast window over the buffet. I love the touch of orange in the room.

Below the wreath, I kept the buffet simple with a few pumpkins, and a candle in a hurricane, and a potted plant.

6. Create Cozy Lighting
Lighting plays such an important role in creating a cozy fall atmosphere! In fact, the lighting in a room is probably the most important way to create a warm and inviting space. I say you can never have too many table lamps!

I just made a small lighting switch in our living room, and it made a huge difference. I simply moved the small blue and white lamp that sat on our piano to the end of the sofa table behind the sofa, and it instantly made the room feel cozier! It looks so much better with the artwork.

The pair of lanterns that used to grace that sofa table have a new spot on the hearth for fall.
I love using battery-operated candles in our home all year long. I keep large battery-operated moving wick pillar candles in the lanterns and they come on every night to create a cozy look.

I also love using battery-operated taper candles on our dining table and mantel. They are perfect to use in close places and around flammable materials such as dried flowers and florals.

We are still loving our new chandelier and pendant lights we purchased last winter for our dining room and breakfast area. The dimmable switches allow us to adjust the light level during cozy fall meals.
