LOVE summer!! I love the warmer weather, the sunshine, the fresh fruit, watermelon season, and of course trips to the beach! It’s the season for easy, breezy decor, and today I’m sharing some simple summer styling tips to help you slide into summer in style!

Tips for Summer Decorating in Your Home:

These summer decor ideas are some of my favorite ways to add relaxed summer style to our home during the warmer months.

1. Switch to lighter bedding.

Replace heavy comforters and dark bed linens with lighter quilts or coverlets in soft, summery colors. Opt for breathable fabrics like cotton or linen to stay cool during hot nights.

Blue and white printed comforter set with white quilt

Our new blue and white printed comforter set by My Texas House from Walmart is the perfect light weight bedding. This lightweight comforter adds coastal color and texture and is the perfect weight for this warm season. I’ve paired it with my favorite white pick-stitched quilt from Pottery Barn.

If you need a versatile white quilt that’s the perfect weight all year long, this is the quilt for you. It’s a relaxed look, yet adds an elevated and luxurious feeling to your bed throughout the seasons.

For summer, I pair it with a lightweight comforter folded at the foot of our bed, and as the temperature cools down in the fall and winter I pair it with a velvety duvet and chunky knit throw.

2. Add greenery to indoor spaces.

Introduce potted plants, fresh flowers, and even small indoor trees around your home to bring the outdoors in. Plants like succulents, ferns, and palms can bring life and a pop of color to any room.

I love adding florals and lush greenery in our home during the summer to bring a feeling of nature inside of our home. If you have fresh florals growing in your garden, that’s perfect; however, if you don’t have a green thumb, you can also opt for faux greenery or flowers.

I created a large arrangement in our living room using some favorite faux stems.

These green stems add the perfect airy summer feel in our large wooden vase. I paired these greenery stems with these white cosmos blooms. The key to using faux greenery and flowers effectively is to pair them with the appropriate growing season. This will give the look of fresh flowers from your yard.

3. Update your table settings for summer with a refreshing color palette.

Change out your usual table settings for something more summery. Use colorful placemats, patterned napkins, and bright dishware. Fresh flowers as a centerpiece can also add a touch of summer to your dining area.

Summer is the time for a relaxed look on your table. A pretty new printed tablecloth or set of dishes does just the trick. My favorite summer color scheme is blue and white, and this pretty blue and white summer table checks all the boxes!

4. Bring in natural elements to your summer decor.

Incorporate natural materials such as wicker, rattan, and jute in your furniture and home decor for the summer months. Items like wicker baskets, rattan chairs, and jute rugs add a fresh, breezy vibe.

If you’re like our family and love to visit the beach during the summer, represent your coastal happy place with a display of your favorite shell collection. We recently collected these pretty shells on a boating trip to Sanibel Island.

5. Lighten up the fabrics in your living room.

Swap out heavy drapes, throw blankets, and dark pillow covers for lightweight fabrics like linen or cotton in bright or pastel colors. This instantly makes a space feel airier and more summer-appropriate. Consider removing curtains to let as much natural light in as possible.

I love switching out the pillows on our sofa and bed for a fresh new look for the season. Summer is the perfect time to add lighter and brighter looks around your home. It’s also the perfect time for pops of color and new pillows are just the trick!

These are some of my favorite blue and green summer pillow options! They all pair so beautifully together and would make a gorgeous pillow scape on a sofa or bed!

6. Create an inviting outdoor living space.

Extend your living space outdoors by setting up a cozy outdoor seating area. Use weather-resistant furniture, outdoor rugs, and string lights to create a comfortable and stylish environment in your outdoor spaces.

7. Update your wall art.

Change out darker, heavier artwork for lighter, more vibrant pieces. Consider adding beach scenes, botanical prints, or abstract art in summery hues.

Target has a great selection of breezy summer prints, and these are some of my favorites. All of these pieces pair well together or are great on their own.

9. Declutter and simplify.

Summer is the perfect time to declutter and streamline your decor. Clear off surfaces and only display items that add to the summery feel. This creates a more open and inviting space.

10. Use lightweight or natural fiber area rugs.

Swap out heavy or dark rugs for lighter, more breathable options. Consider natural fibers such as a sisal or jute rug for a natural look, or choose rugs in lighter colors and summer patterns to brighten up your floors for a pretty summer look.
