Last weekend, I had the privilege of hosting a bridal shower, celebrating a sweet young friend. She is the soon-to-be daughter-in-law of my best friend, and it was a pleasure to celebrate this sweet young woman and her upcoming marriage to Jake.

This spring has been such a wonderful time full of so many celebrations in our friend group. We are celebrating three weddings this spring, and it’s been so much fun joining in with some of my very closest friends to celebrate each other’s children.

I loved hosting the party in our home, but it was extra special being able to share in the celebration, the party planning, and the food preparation with my very closest friends. This season is such a special time for all of us as we get to bless each other and bless each other’s children during these important life events.

So today, I’m sharing all of the fun details that we pulled together, including our breakfast and brunch menu items, as well as our blue-themed decorations to create a beautiful day for this sweet young bride.

A bridal shower is such a sweet opportunity to love on a young bride-to-be, and this particular bride-to-be is absolutely beautiful and delightful, so it was a pleasure celebrating her on this special day.

Choosing the Perfect Color Scheme

Hallie and Jake are using a pretty shade of blue for their wedding, so I decided to go with a blue theme for the bridal shower. Light blue can be a little tricky for a bridal shower, so I wanted to avoid making the shower decor feel too much like a baby boy shower.

I chose a really soft, pretty shade of blue and added shades of lavender to the mix. Hallie’s wedding color is almost a periwinkle blue, and while I didn’t find periwinkle flowers to decorate with, I did combine blue with lavender to create that purple-blue feel.

Our Blue and Lavender Shower Decorations:

For the table decorations, I added table runners to the main tables using a combination of this dusty blue gauze table runner paired with a cheesecloth runner that I had dyed lavender for a previous bridal shower. I twisted the blue and lavender fabrics to create the illusion of a periwinkle shade, adding extra layers and texture to our table.

Helpful Hint: If your floral arrangements are on the smaller side, and you want add a little volume and size to the tables centerpieces, adding a little bit of cheesecloth puddled in the center of the table below your flower arrangement adds color, texture, and dimension, making your centerpiece feel a little bit larger. I used a smaller round table and a card table for the shower, so I applied this trick to the flower centerpieces for these smaller tables.

For the place settings, I used these beautiful white with gold edge plastic disposable plates. I’m actually using the same plates for son, Kyle’s rehearsal dinner next month, so I ordered a few extras to use for the bridal shower. 

I found the prettiest blue cloth-like paper napkins in a soft blue color for the table and used gold plasticware at each place setting.

I also chose the prettiest patterned plates for the desserts with coordinating napkins. This pretty blue and white print added a touch of Chinoiserie style to the decor.

Fresh Flower Centerpieces for the Tables:

I, of course, made a visit to Trader Joe’s a couple of days before the shower to pick up fresh flowers for table arrangements. I purchased blue hydrangeas, as well as white hydrangeas for the arrangements. They had my favorite lavender roses that paired perfectly with the blue and white hydrangeas to coordinate beautifully

with the blue and lavender table runners. I used an additional bouquet of mixed shades of lavender flowers in the arrangements, and used silver dollar eucalyptus in each arrangement for a touch of greenery.

I wanted to make sure the flower arrangements on the tables were low enough for conversation across the table. I used one of my favorite smaller vases, and filled it with floral oasis to create a beautiful low profile arrangement on our larger table.

For our kitchen table, I created an arrangement in a midsize vase using the same flowers as in the dining room.

On the smaller, folding round and car table, I made smaller arrangements with white hydrangeas and eucalyptus. I used a little bit of the blue and lavender cheesecloth to add a little bulk and color to these smaller centerpieces.

Crafting the Balloon Garland:

I created a blue garland for our entryway and used shades of blue, gold, white, and clear balloons in a variety of sizes to shape the garland.

I’ve learned that having an electric balloon pump is a must if you want to create a balloon garland quickly. This is the one I have, and it works beautifully (especially if you have a teenage daughter who blows the balloons up for you)!

I don’t like to use the little plastic strips with holes that come with balloon kits. I have found it much easier to start by tying bunches of three balloons together. I just use the ends of the balloons and tie them in no particular pattern or order. I just make sure I mix the colors and color combinations as I go. Sometimes I group all of one color together, sometimes I mix. It’s a very random process. I don’t overthink it!

Once I create my bunches of balloons, I then take either fishing wire or a small, narrow ribbon and simply start wrapping in and around all of the bunches, adding them to the string or the ribbon. I shape as I go. I find it much easier and faster to create the balloon garland this way rather than trying to insert all of those balloons into those holes in the plastic strips. 

Previously, I’ve used fishing wire to string the balloon bunches together; however, this time I used the narrow ribbon that came with one of the balloon garland packages and found that I liked it better than the fishing wire. Fishing wire can get tangled fairly easily, and I seemed to avoid this better with the thin ribbon.

I also just learned that I really like hanging our balloons in more of an asymmetric pattern over the arch of our foyer entryway. Before I’ve always hung them it a more symmetric fashion over this arch, but this time I tried the asymmetric look and really liked it.

Menu Ideas for a Bridal Shower Brunch:

When it comes to preparing shower food, it’s so wonderful to have friends and family who pitch in and help create the variety of dishes.

We decided to do a variety of quiches for our bridal brunch. We served ham and cheese quiche, a veggie quiche, an egg and bacon quiche, and a simple frittata for the gluten-free guests.

One of my friends made the most delicious Million-Dollar Bacon! It’s a recipe like the one from First Watch, and it is such a special take on bacon. It’s a little spicy and sweet but so yummy, and paired so well with the quiches.

In keeping with First Watch recipes, I made a lemon vinaigrette similar to their recipe, and it was the perfect addition to brunch salad of simple greens and shaved Parmesan. Here’s the link to the recipe I used.

We also served a tray of delicious fresh fruit with chocolate dips to round out our menu.

For desserts, we finished off our yummy brunch with a “doughnut cake” and sugar cookies. We purchased the donuts in a variety of colors and sizes and filled a three-tiered tray to create a cake effect.

I made simple sugar cookies with these flower cookie cutters in medium and small bite-sizes, and then decorated with royal icing in our blue and lavender color scheme.

​We all enjoyed this special day so much. Anytime you can celebrate with sweet friends and family it makes for a delightful day!
