Effortless Style: Dining Room and Breakfast Nook Lighting Inspiration

Updating the lighting in your home is one of the easiest ways to transform your space, and I’m excited to share the updates we made to our dining room and breakfast nook. With the holidays approaching, it felt like the perfect time to refresh these high-traffic areas with beautiful new light fixtures.

Thanks to Lowe’s, we’ve added a stunning shaded chandelier to the dining room and a sleek dome pendant to the breakfast nook. These fixtures not only brighten the spaces but also bring a fresh, coordinated look that complements our home’s style. Let me show you how these simple updates make a big impact!

Every home needs a little bit of jewelry or bling, and when it comes to your home, lighting fixtures are like the jewelry of the room. Whether it’s a chandelier, pendant light, semi-flush mount, or sconces, lighting offers an opportunity to add style and set the tone of a space.

Our Lighting Refresh with Lowe’s

Lighting is one of the easiest ways to update a room without breaking the bank, and Lowe’s has so many beautiful light fixtures at affordable prices! Since our home’s main areas flow together, I wanted the light fixtures to coordinate and complement one another.

Today, I’m excited to share a little lighting refresh in our home! I’ve partnered with Lowe’s to update our dining room and breakfast area with two gorgeous new fixtures, just in time for the holidays. These spaces are central to holiday entertaining in our home’s open floor plan, so I was ready for a small facelift to create a fresh look.

A dining room featuring a wooden table and six white chairs offers perfect lighting inspiration. The table is adorned with flowers, red candles, and a runner. Overhead, a chandelier glows warmly. A mirror with a wreath graces the wall, while natural light streams through shuttered doors.

Dining Room: Shaded Chandelier

Last year, we gave our dining room a new wall treatment with trim and fresh paint, and I wanted to continue the transformation with a new chandelier.

A dining room with a wooden table set for a festive meal. It features red and gold decorations, candles, and a centerpiece. Six white chairs surround the table. A mirror with a wreath hangs on the wall, and a chandelier is above. Natural light enters the room.

I was looking for classic lines to match the molding on our walls but with a fresh, clean finish to replace our older oil-rubbed bronze fixture, which I felt was too swirly and outdated.

I opted for a shaded 6-light polished gold chandelier in our dining room because I prefer the softer lighting shades provide. Bright, exposed bulbs can be harsh, and I wanted the shades to be a soft white or off-white to blend with our Benjamin Moore White Dove walls.

A modern gold chandelier with six white lampshades provides lighting inspiration over a dining table. In the background, a decorative wreath with a red ribbon is reflected in a mirror. A chair and framed pictures add charm to this elegant dining room.

The fabric shades on this fixture are perfect—off-white without feeling stark or beige, and they complement the space beautifully. The brushed gold finish adds a contemporary touch while maintaining the classic look I was after.

A cozy dining room with a round black table, surrounded by white slipcovered chairs, offers lighting inspiration. A festive centerpiece adorns the table while a Christmas tree, wreaths, and garlands enhance the holiday atmosphere. Natural light filters through the windows, illuminating this charming space.

Breakfast Area: Dome Pendant Fixture

Our breakfast nook also needed a lighting upgrade. I was tired of the oil-rubbed bronze and all those swirls and twirls!

For this space, I chose a matte white metal dome three-light pendant fixture. My inspiration came from one of my favorite designers, Sarah Bartholomew. I admire how she blends traditional elements with contemporary touches, and this light fixture captures that clean, updated style.

In a cozy dining room, Style Inspiration comes to life with Dining Room Lighting featuring a large pendant light above. A lit candle in a glass holder graces the table adorned with greenery, while windows with bamboo shades reveal a backyard basketball hoop. Holiday wreaths and decorative plates embellish the walls.

The white metal dome paired with subtle gold accents ties in beautifully with the gold brushed finish of our dining room chandelier.

A cozy breakfast nook features a dark circular table adorned with greenery and a candle. The white pendant lamp provides lighting inspiration as it hangs above. Windows with greenery wreaths allow in daylight, while miniature holiday houses charm on a side table.

The clean lines of this dome pendant create a fresh updated look in our space.

Tips for Hanging a Chandelier or Pendant Over a Dining Table:

  • For an 8 to 9-foot ceiling, the bottom of the light fixture should hang 30 to 36 inches above the table. For taller ceilings, raise the fixture by about 3 inches for every additional foot of ceiling height.
  • Consider the width of your table when determining the width of your chandelier or pendant. The fixture should be about 10 inches smaller than the table’s width. Our dining table is narrow, so I slightly adjusted this rule, but the 29-inch chandelier makes an impact without overwhelming the space.
  • Consider selecting a dimmable fixture and install a dimmer switch to allow for softer lighting during meals.
  • Use warm white or soft white light bulbs in your fixtures rather than cool white to create a more inviting look in your room.
