Now let’s get to the fun part and take a little tour around our home all dressed in plaid for Christmas this year.

A Welcoming Christmas Entryway
Our entryway has a small foyer table, and I always like to greet our guests with a pretty floral arrangement.

I used a large rattan pedestal basket bowl and filled it with faux greenery, pine cones, magnolia branches, berry stems, and a few dried hydrangeas from our yard. Everything is artificial except the hydrangeas, but you could easily recreate this look with fresh clippings and magnolia stems from your yard. (Oh, fresh pomegranates would also be an amazing addition! I think I’ll run to the store to grab some!)

Beside the arrangement, I added one of my favorite pieces of artwork for the season, which includes a line from my favorite Christmas carol, O Holy Night — “A Thrill of Hope.” Christmas is all about Jesus, the hope of the world, coming to us, and I love having that reminder right when you walk in.
I finished the little vignette with an old Santos angel I’ve had for years from my Southern Living at Home days. On the lower shelf, I tucked in a large basket with a soft plaid throw and a green lantern with a flameless candle on a timer to add a warm glow to the space.

A mixed greenery garland cascades down our stair railing, accented with soft Christmas lights, and pretty bows tied with Tartan plaid and red velvet ribbon. I carried that same look onto the stair banister that overlooks the living room by adding more red berry garland and finishing it off with white tartan plaid bows mixed with red velvet ribbon.

Our Living Room Dressed for Christmas

The focus of our living room is, of course, our Christmas tree, and this year I went all in on plaid. I used lots of ribbon in different plaid patterns along with a little red velvet. I layered bows by tying different ribbons together, and mixed in plenty of red, green, and gold ornaments to keep everything feeling classic and traditional.

On the mantel, I used a couple of layers of cedar and Norfolk pine garland and tucked lights throughout.

I found the prettiest green plaid ribbon at Michaels this year, and I used it both on the tree and across the mantel. I also found some simple red berry garland at Walmart and wove it into the greenery for even more color and texture.

At the base of the mantel, I added a large basket filled with greenery, oversized wooden jingle bells, red ornaments, and another plaid bow. Off to the side of the basket, I placed wooden lanterns with flameless pillar candles on timers. These candles come on every evening at five and stay on all night, and I use them all year long. They’re one of my favorite items to decorate with, especially at Christmas!

I kept the coffee table pretty simple this year. I used a large round woven basket filled with greenery and big sugar pinecones, and I placed a large hurricane in the center with another flameless candle on a timer.

Since our coffee table is large, I styled the other end with gold ornaments gathered in a blue and white bowl and another hurricane filled with a small Christmas tree–shaped candle sitting on a stack of books.
Our pillows and throws stayed mostly the same from fall into Christmas. I added one deeper green velvet pillow for some seasonal color, and that was really all it needed.

On the sofa table behind the couch, I filled a large urn with more evergreen branches and kept the dried hydrangeas from my fall arrangement. I tied everything together with a pretty deep red velvet bow, and also added a small Willow Tree nativity scene there to finish the look.

On our built-in shelves, I placed our nativity set on the top shelf, and I love how the overhead light shines right on it and creates a soft focal point in the room.
Christmas in the Dining Room

I carried the plaid theme into the dining room and went with a more traditional Christmas table using red and green Tartan plaid. I started with a fun green and white striped paper runner from Hester & Cook as the base, then layered a jute runner over it for a little cozy texture. To tie in the plaid, I added a strip of red tartan ribbon right down the center on top of the jute runner.

For the centerpiece, I used a silver pedestal bowl and filled it with magnolia stems, Norfolk pine, red berries, and pinecones from our yard. I finished it off with a few gold textured ornaments for just a little shimmer. On each side of the centerpiece, I added wooden taper candlesticks surrounded by small candle rings of greenery and red berries, and topped them with simple red tapers. The whole table has a classic Christmas look that feels pretty, simple, and not fussy.

For the place settings, I used brown chargers with our traditional Spode dishes and added tartan plaid napkins at each place. I love this classic Christmas look, and plaid is forever my favorite for Christmas decorating! I tucked a few Norfolk stems into the chandelier above the table and hung a wreath on the mirror to bring in a little more greenery.

On the sideboard, I created a small vignette with a white vase filled with greenery and red berries, a glass tree, and a red votive candle to finish the room.

Simple Christmas Touches in the Kitchen and Breakfast Area

In our breakfast area, I started with the table. I bought this green and blue block print tablecloth toward the end of the summer and have loved using it through the warmer months and into fall. I thought I might need to swap it out for Christmas, but I decided to try it, and I’m so glad I did. The soft green pattern works beautifully with our Christmas decor and adds such a pretty base without bringing in too much bold red. It was exactly the look I wanted in this room.

I kept the place settings simple with green chargers, our traditional Spode dishes, and green cloth napkins at each place. It all feels fresh and pretty, and the tablecloth is the perfect background for it.
For the centerpiece, I used a woven round tray and placed a large glass hurricane in the middle with a simple green taper candle. I surrounded it with nothing but greenery and pinecones. It’s so easy and so pretty, and I love how natural it looks.

I also added a small tree in this space. I kept it very simple with a little plaid ribbon at the top that I let cascade down the branches, some red and green ornaments, and a few little wooden houses that I’ve had in my collection.

On our kitchen buffet, I displayed my collection of DIY paper Christmas houses. I made these a couple of years ago, and you can read all about them here if you’d like to try your own. On the other end of the buffet, I added some faux paperwhites in a terra-cotta pot for a soft, simple arrangement. You could certainly grow your own if you start early enough, but this little faux narcissus plant works perfectly for me. A Louisville Stoneware Twelve Days of Christmas platter finishes off the vignette.

In the breakfast area, I added two wreaths—one above the window and one on the mirror. And in the kitchen itself, I added a few small touches of Christmas with little wreaths on the cabinet doors above the stove.

This year I also ran a bit of greenery along the top of the cabinets for a pretty layered look, and added bows and greenery to our collection of wooden cutting boards.
I switched out our everyday mugs for Santa mugs and Christmas mugs and added a small tree in the corner of the counter to complete the space.

A Cozy Christmas Screened Porch

Our screened porch was one of my favorite spaces to decorate for Christmas this year. Last summer we added new porch furniture from Walmart, and we’ve loved the way it completely transformed this area. It’s become one of our favorite spots in the house. Even though the weather is cooler now and we don’t sit out here as much, it’s still so pretty to see from the kitchen.

I kept our soft blue and white block print pillows from summer and added red tartan plaid pillows to the sofas. In the corner, I added a small Christmas tree wrapped with grapevine and frosted red berries for a simple, natural look.
On the coffee table, I created a little arrangement with a ring of artificial pine and pinecones and set a red lantern with a candle in the center. On the other end of the sofa, I added a bit of greenery to a large jar for an easy touch of Christmas.

I found the cutest little doormat from Walmart for the porch and added some greenery and large jingle bells to our small green table. I tucked a Christmas pillow into the basket on the lower shelf, and it finished off the space perfectly. I love how cozy and welcoming the porch feels for the season.
