I just purchased the prettiest scalloped edge footed bowl from Ballard Designs. It’s called the Coralie Footed Bowl, and it’s just the perfect little addition around our home. The scalloped edge is very much on-trend, but this piece has a classic quality that will make it a favored accent for years to come!
The Easiest Way to Decorate for a New Season
I’m a big believer in having great decor accent pieces on hand that are easy to grab and display my favorite seasonal touches as we move through the year. Vases, bowls, and baskets are the perfect pieces for adding simple seasonal stems, flowers, fruit, or other natural elements without overwhelming your room.
Why a Footed Bowl Is the Perfect Staple Decor Piece
Sometimes the terms “footed bowl” and “pedestal bowl” are used interchangeably, but these elevated bowls essentially serve the same purpose. Pedestal bowls typically have one larger central foot while footed bowls usually have 3-4 little “feet” supporting the bowl.
A footed bowl just elevates (literally and figuratively) your decor! A regular bowl will work just fine for all of the decor ideas in this post, but adding a little height to your vignette just makes it feel a little more special.
My little scalloped footed bowl is so beautiful on its own, but it’s such a fun and super easy piece to decorate, and I’m excited to show you some gorgeous (and super simple) ways to decorate a footed bowl throughout the seasons.
5-Minute Decorating Ideas for a Footed Bowl
I LOVE an easy decorating idea, and if you’re short on time but want to spruce up your room with a few seasonal touches, I’ve got you covered!
These decorating ideas are so simple and versatile, and you can apply these ideas to bowls, baskets, and trays as well!
1. Prop Up a Small Potted Plant

A small potted plant looks so pretty propped on the footed bowl. A little pothos plant in a white hobnail planter is a fresh look for summer styled with lemons and limes. I love this corralled on a round woven tray!

For a little more color, a blue glazed planter is perfect on the pedestal bowl on our screened porch table. I love the way the blue planter pops against the white for a classic look!
2. Style with a Stack of Lemons and Limes

Fill your footed bowl full of seasonal fruits. Lemons and limes are perfect for summertime, or peaches would also be pretty.
Switch to apples or small pumpkins and gourds as you head into fall, and pomegranates would be lovely for Christmas!
Important Tip: In my photo, I’m using faux lemons and limes. Always check if your bowl is food-safe before storing real food. You can always line your bowl with a piece of wax paper to protect your real fruit.
3. Add a Candle with a Fall Candle Ring

For a super easy fall idea, add a pillar candle in a glass candleholder to the center of the footed bowl and surround it with a simple fall floral candle ring or mini wreath.
It would be an easy switch for Christmas to replace the fall floral with evergreen and red berries!
4. Create a Ring of Pomegranate Branches

These pretty pomegranate stems are gorgeous for a fall centerpiece! I twisted the stems into a circular shape to form a wreath around the candle holder.
I have the orange stems, but these also come in a gorgeous red for Christmas!
5. Nestle a Pumpkin on a Bed of Bittersweet

I love decorating with bittersweet for fall! I use it on mantels, in wreaths, and on our dining table, but I absolutely love it coiled around a pumpkin in a pedestal bowl! It’s the perfect fall look for your table!
6. Fill It with Moss Balls for a Natural Look

Moss balls make gorgeous bowl filler all year long! I like to combine different sizes and textures, and the rich green color is so pretty with the textured wooden balls in this footed bowl.
I love it styled here on a favorite stack of design books grouped with my oyster shell votive on our coffee table! So much lovely texture!
7. Layer Pinecones, Magnolia Leaves, and Dried Hydrangeas

Fill your pedestal bowl full of natural elements for tons of seasonal texture! This combination of magnolia leaves, pinecones, and dried hydrangea from our garden can be used from fall into winter!
8. Display Ornaments for a Simple Christmas Bowl

Want to show off a collection of favorite Christmas ornaments? A footed bowl is the perfect container! I added some neutral glass ornaments to our bowl, but it would be so pretty full of the vibrant colors of the holidays!
Where to Style a Footed Bowl Around Your Home
A footed bowl is so versatile and can be styled in so many rooms of your home from season to season. Here are some favorite spots to try:
- A dining table centerpiece full of fruit or florals for an easy seasonal focal point.
- A coffee table accent with layered textures to add interest without clutter.
- A kitchen island or buffet styled with citrus or pinecones for quick seasonal swaps.
- An entryway or foyer bowl with natural elements to greet guests with a warm touch.
- A mantel display filled with ornaments or greenery for height and dimension.
- A bedroom dresser topped with greenery or blooms for a soft, inviting detail.
- A bathroom vanity bowl with rolled washcloths or soaps for a spa-like touch.
- A bookshelf styled with moss balls or branches to break up rows of books.
- A covered porch or sunroom bowl filled with shells or pinecones for a simple outdoor accent.
